Architectural Barriers Consultation

Architectural Barriers Consultation (ABC) is a fee-for-service for business owners desiring to make their properties and/or establishment(s) more accessible to people with disabilities.

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), a federal law passed in 1990, requires places of public accommodation to be accessible to people with disabilities.

The ADA sets out very specific details regarding what is required for a place to be considered accessible. We have had over 200 hours of specific training in these guidelines. Unlike inspectors, architects, or developers, our sole focus is on the ADA and other state and federal guidelines regarding accessibility. We are knowledgeable about the options available to be in compliance with those laws.

Architectural Barriers Consultation is available to assist you so that your new construction or remodeling is in compliance with the law. Research has demonstrated a 20% increase in customers to businesses that have made modifications to provide accessibility. Compliance with the ADA is not just the law; it is good business. There are over one million New Yorkers who have a disability; therefore, the inclusion of people with disabilities in our communities benefits everyone.

As Architectural Barriers Consultation Consultants, we conduct an on-site survey of your facility. We then follow up with a complete written report identifying all accessibility issues and recommendations for possible solutions.

This unique service from TRI is also available for homeowners desiring to make their residences more accessible. TRI services are FREE to consumers.

Letter to TRI from Rebuilding Together Dutchess County reads:

June 26, 2023

Dear Partner,
Rebuilding Together Dutchess County (RTDC) is an affiliate of the nation's leading
nonprofit working to provide safe and healthy homes while also preserving affordable homeownership by providing no-cost home repairs and modifications to income
qualified homeowners. For over 30 years, RTDC has brought volunteers and
communities together to improve the homes and lives of the growing population of
homeowners in need, completing over 1,100 home repair projects throughout Dutchess County.
We are pleased to announce our 2023 Rebuilding Day home repair application is now available and ask for your support to spread the word about our programs to those you serve or interact with.
RTDC's vision is safe homes and communities for everyone. By making some basic
adjustments, or completing large-scale deferred maintenance repairs, RTDC can help homeowners remain in their homes for as long as they wish to be. In order to expand our reach to those in need, we seek your help identifying qualified homeowners who can benefit from our no-cost home repair and safety modification efforts for the 2024 Rebuilding Day and Handyman Programs.
We welcome any assistance you can provide in publicizing our call for applications to local homeowners. Our Rebuilding Day program application period this year is June 1 through August 31, 2023. Applications received will be for consideration into our 2024 program year. We are happy to accept referrals from you of qualified homeowners in need. Please encourage them to apply or assist them in submitting an application. If you have any questions about referring homeowners, please give us a call.
You have a unique vantage point and ability to spread the word about our services.
Enclosed is our Rebuilding Day program application. The application may also be
accessed on our website at www.rtdutchess.org.
We would be happy to speak to you or your staff and can provide additional materials for you to distribute. We appreciate your sharing of this application through your communication channels to inform people about RTDC services. Please call with requests or questions: (845) 454-7310. We extend our most sincere gratitude for your partnership and assistance.
Sincerely, Darcy Mccourt Executive Director
