Vanessa is a Transition Specialist with the Open Doors Transition Center in Dutchess County. She facilitates transitions for people with physical disabilities and traumatic brain injuries (TBI), from the nursing home back into the community.

Vanessa has experience working as a special education teacher, an aide to daily living, group home manager, case manager and as a counselor in a women’s health clinic. She earned an MA in Transpersonal Psychology, a psychology that takes into account a person’s body, mind and spirit. In the past, Vanessa worked at TRI as a volunteer, an Independent Living Specialist and as a Clinical Advisor.  During that time, she was coming to terms with her own new disability diagnosis and figuring out what to do next.  She then developed a Plan for Achieving Self Support (PASS) and went back to school to earn a master’s degree in Social Work. She is currently a Licensed Social Worker.
