Applying for Social Security Disability Programs

Virtual and In-Person Workshops

3:00 PM to 4:30 PM

Zoom: Every 2nd Tuesday
or
In Person: 4th Tuesday

You must attend a workshop before scheduling a one-on-one appointment with our Benefits Counselor. These workshops provide a basic understanding of the application process and will equip you with the knowledge and essential skills to apply independently.

All community members are welcome to attend the virtual workshop.

For in-person workshops it’s “first come, first served”, there is limited seating available. Wearing proper facemasks is still encouraged but not required.

Accommodations (ASL, presentation shared in large print, etc.) Please request any accommodations at least two weeks in advance.

To register for our in-person workshop please complete a HIPAA registration form, CLICK HERE to RSVP; or you may call the front desk. There will be no walk-ins.

When you call, please tell us if you are attending as a…

  • A person applying for yourself, and let us know if you are in need of accommodations.
  • Friend or family member.

In this FREE webinar, you will hear an overview of ACCES-VR, including the description of PreEmployment Transition Services, available for students with disabilities ages 14 and older.

Adult Career and Continuing Education ServicesVocational Rehabilitation (ACCES-VR) starts with the presumption that all individuals with disabilities should have opportunities to work in
jobs within their communities and can benefit from vocational rehabilitation services.

The workshop will be presented by LaQuesha Matthews-Reed, Integrated Employment Specialist Business Relation Team Member ACCES VR, and David Lee, Senior Rehabilitation Vocational Counselor Transition and Youth Service ACCES VR.

Safe & Accessible Transporation for Students with Special Needs

Monday, October 28, 2024 (9:30-11 am) & (7:00-8:30 pm) Zoom meeting. Presented by: Mid-Hudson Special Education Task Force.
Please choose one session only. Each LIVE session will use the same material. The event is free of charge, but registration is required. This event will be recorded. For a copy of the flyer click here.

Join us for a virtual informative workshop on ensuring safety and accessibility for students with special needs on school buses. Learn about the essential rights, safety measures, and best practices that every parent and caregiver should know.

Topics Include:

  • Understanding transportation rights for students with disabilities
  • How to advocate for safe, inclusive, and equitable transportation options
  • Best practices for working with school districts and CSE/CPSE on transportation needs,
  • support and accommodations

Speakers:
– Jennifer O’Neill, Parent, Community Organizer, SETF Member and Senior Special Education Advocate with Taconic Resources for Independence, Inc.
– Fiona Rattray, SETF Member and Parent Training & Information Center Specialist with Putnam Independent Living Services (PILS)
